FALCONIFORMES: Falconidae
Falco peregrinus
This Peregrine Falcon was looking out over the Wannon River Gorge a few hundred metres below Wannon Falls.
It was drizzling rain and I climbed through wet vegetation along the top of the gorge as quietly as I could, trying to improve my position to photograph this beautiful bird, until I barked my shin almost going head-first over a fallen tree branch, that is.
The photograph was taken through the vegetation shortly before the mishap but I'm sure that the bird was already totally aware of my presence and was just waiting for a good laugh before it flew off across the gorge and out of sight.
